If all action is political, and politics is the game of powers, and all power corrupts then it is a moral obligation to subvert all power, starting with oneself.
On a bright blue planet, flying around a glowing sun of massive radioactive explosions, in a remote part of a galaxy lives a species of animals called human. Around what they call the year 2007, for the first time in their history, more of these humans were found living in cities than in any other habitat. Millions and millions of humans have built around themselves dense structures of roads, buildings, bars, phoneboxes, stadiums and places of worship. What results is a mind-blowingly complex overlapping of desires, trends, wants, and needs. Regardless of the race, gender, sexuality, or class, humans have become an urban species and their new ecological niche is changing their very existence.
Freerange is a regularly released online and print journal that investigates the complexity of the city. Its leading proposition is that we need to keep our wits about us while doing this, living in the city is not just about understanding but engaging. We need to be wary of the 20th centuries ideologies that led us astray, and spend our energies discovering what we really value. At Freerange we think that while we grapple with the cultural and physical manifestations of our time we need to keep one piraty eye trained on what Derrida called the 'subversive intensity of existence.'
